Abstract These exercises accompany the chapter “Spatial Organization and Diffusion in Neuronal Signaling” to appear in an edited text by Le Novere, published by Springer. They are designed to guide the reader through the exploration of restricted diffusion and compartmentalization in three different dendritic spines with unique morphologies in a constructed and experimentally derived 3D geometry. Although constructed with early versions of Virtual Cell, the models are accessible and valid in later version. Up to date instructions on how to view, run and save models can be found in the Virtual Cell User Guides at http://www.vcell.org/.
